New Years by the San Francisco Bay (or: Hanukkah in Santa Monica, the sequel) by Len Fellman
I'm spending New Years,
for these past few years,
here in Berkeley by the San Francisco Bay.
In January
I'll still be merry,
because the New Year of the Trees will make my day.
In February
I feel contrary.
If I make a batch of hamentaschen
Purim won't be scary!
But then in Nissan
the sea will split for me.
I'll start at Embarcardero,
cross the sea just like an arrow,
coming up the escalator
to this place-none which is greater-
to the promised land of Berkeley
(and please don't call it Berzerkley)
to spend the new year
here by San Francisco Bay
